More Automata. What is Automata? Awesome.
Also, its this. Page 1. Page 2. Page 3. Page 4. Page 5 comes out tomorrow. After that, what the fuck happens to it? I don't know and neither do you! I wanna see more though.
Tycho said that whenever he reads this work that he has helped create, he gets a sense of something akin to impending doom. That is almost exactly how I feel reading it. It is set in an alternate past, yes, but it carries with a sense of foreboding.
Look at the logo. The O of "automata" is replaced by the eye of the main character, Carl. Everything else is simplified colors, black background, white text. Except for this eye. If you haven't read the comic it isn't clear that its an eye, but you get the message before you see any of that. Its like if you watch a cartoon, and someone walks into a cave, or dark room, and a bat opens a single eye after some time in pitch darkness. When that eye opens, you know automatically that somethin is about to happen. When you see that point of color in the sea of blackness, you know some shit is about to go down. In the case of cartoons, its bats flying through your hair and what have you. But with this comic, you know its something like the machine uprising, or racial (is that the right term) oppression? Anything really. It's noir. So you know, as I said, that shit is gonna go down. And you're not gonna like it. Just imagine standing in a room and watching that eye open. Especially because the edges of the eye are swirling. I don't wanna say violent, but it's turbulent. And it has all this room to expand. So it could get violent. Storm that can only gather.
Why does Carl wear a suit? People are clearly biased against machine intelligence. Does it make him more acceptable to humans? Carl could kick the shit out of pretty much any human he came into contact with. Why does he wish to be accepted? More on this later. Maybe.
